Mini Origami Lamp and Mizuhiki knot Belt Workshop

Experience the Japanese tradition and create your own artworks! We’ll introduce the basics of washi paper with a guide document. An Origami lamp is created by folding and gluing together several sheets of handmade washi paper in a bellows-like manner. Inserting a small lamp inside the bellows-like washi paper, the ramp shines with gentle and warm light. When you close the bellows shape, the shape will look like a closed book. Additionally, you will create a mizuhiki knot (paper strings) ornament for the belt. At the end, you will have your one and only Origami lump. At the end of the session, we offer Japanese sweets with “Japanese paper tea” that is not offered elsewhere! “Mizuhiki” is a traditional paper cord, with a core of twisted washi paper, wrapped by nylon or film, making it a very decorative cord. Did you know each knot has meanings? Knowing the meaning of knots makes them perfect for gifts. Because washi is light and durable, it is perfect for art pieces and interior decor. Let’s learn about the Japanese traditional crafts and its skills to create your own original art piece. Please be informed that this workshop requires detailed skills that may not be suitable for young children. If you are looking for a family activity, we recommend “Private Workshop to Create Paper Last for 1,000 years in Ueno”. For details and reservations, please visit this website. Workshop Time : About 120min @¥16,500- Advance reservations are generally required. origami lump

Private Paper Drawing Art Workshop

You will learn two types of Washi art techniques: how to use Washi ink and how to make paper-cut art. Washi ink is created by dissolved colored paper. Using molds on a Washi paper canvas, you will design your painting with Washi ink. Washi paper cutting involves cutting washi paper into desired shapes. By placing the cut washi on the raw material in the mold, you can color the washi to decorate it. While your paper is drying, let’s relax with our original and only kind “Japanese paper tea” along with local Japanese sweets. The Japanese paper tea is brewed from kozo leaves, which are the raw material for making paper. In this workshop, you will be taking your A5-sized piece of Washi art and one postcard. You can choose to take the postcard with you or send it to someone you care about. If you wish to send the card, we will guide you on how to mail your designed letter. To mail your postcard at a post office, an additional fee is required. For details and reservations, please visit this website.
